Make It Yours with Tom McCarthy

Begin creating work that is more about who you are than what you can do. This workshop will present concepts and strategies to help you find your “voice.” You will learn how to identify your preferences, recognize recurring patterns in your work, and discover who you are as a maker.
Sunday Crafternoon - Polymer Clay Jewelry

Polymer clay is not just for kids - it’s versatile and can be used to create jewelry –beads, bracelets, necklaces, earrings and pins. It’s soft and easy to manipulate, and when it’s baked it becomes a hard form. Learn the glasswork technique of millefiori by layering colors of clay to create complex patterns.

Craft On Tap – Found Object Jewelry (Ages 21+)

Create a piece of wearable art in just one evening. Enjoy beer from a local brewery and a light snack while our Artist Instructor guides you through the steps to create beautiful jewelry from unusual everyday materials.
Mosaics with Maxine

Using tiles, bits of glass, Marbles, and found objects, explore the ancient art of mosaics. Learn mosaic design, glass and tile-cutting, and final grouting as you create your own work of art.
Paper and Light – Handmade Paper Lanterns
February 21, 10A-4P

Nothing compares to the warm glow of illuminated handmade paper.  In this workshop you will first create a simple armature for your lamp using found objects, wood and wire. In the second part of this workshop you will make handmade paper sheets and attach them to the lamp structure you have created.
Confessions of a Craft Addict – Kate Anderson

A series of informal presentations by practicing local artists. Each presentation gives you a glimpse inside the artists’ hearts and brains to help discover why they make what they do, why craft. Coffee and sweets provided. The Delmar Loop location, 2nd Floor Design Studio. Free and open to the public. The attendees receive a discount coupon for the Gallery Shop for the day of the talk.

Come to the Glass Studio at Craft Alliance in the Delmar Loop and make fused glass coasters. Sip wine and enjoy light snacks while guided through the steps of cutting and assembling sheet glass for melting in the kiln.

Interpretations: 15th Biennial Teapot Exhibition
January 15 – March 20, 2016

An invitational exhibition of innovative teapots made of clay, metal, glass and fiber. The teapot shape has been investigated by artists for centuries, challenging both the functional and non-functional concept of the form. Over 50 artists have been invited to continue this exploration in Interpretations, the 15th Biennial exhibit celebrating the teapot and its various artistic configurations.

Surface Design with Mishima Inlay and Computer Cut Stencils with Dganit Moreno

Create surface decoration on your vessels by converting sketches or web-source imagery into stencils. This class will teach the Mishima technique of colored slip inlay.

Learn to apply intricate and interesting imagery to metal without using toxic chemicals! Working with former Metals Artist-in-Residence Audrey Peck, you will make a pendant using saltwater to etch your unique designs into copper or brass.

Create a wearable glass pendants. Explore glass forming techniques and creating unique surface decorations with glass artists Deb Katon.
Bead-Making Bonanza! Glass Bead Workshop for ages 12 to Adult

Learn to wind hot melted glass on steel to form colorful glass beads in a day. Explore a variety of flame-working techniques and go home with a handful of beads at the end of this workshop.
Craft Uncorked – Enameled Pendant (Ages 21+)

Enamel a pendant while enjoying a glass of wine and some snacks throughout the evening.  Our Artist Instructor will guide you through the various techniques used for applying vitreous enamel to a copper pendant and firing it in the kiln.

Artist instructors Peg Fetter and Deborah Katon have teamed up to give you a craft experience.  You will work with metals and glass to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art.
Candy Canes & Colorful Twists for Bead Decoration & Window Ornaments

Create beautiful multi-color canes and use them to decorate beads with complex patterns or make colorful hanging ornaments.
Interpretations: 15th Biennial Teapot Exhibition

“In my work, I use a sewing machine to create thread drawings and installations by sewing into a fabric that dissolves in water. This fabric makes it possible for me to build up the thread by sewing repeatedly into my drawn images so that when the fabric is dissolved, the image can hold together without a base."

Create a hand-built vessel of terracotta specifically designed for a Bonsai tree. You will address issues of style, utility, drainage and decoration while creating a home for your tree.
From Your Own Backyard: Papermaking with Local Plant Fibers

You will never look at your grass clippings in the same way again. In just one day we will explore how to make paper from locally found plant fibers such as iris leaves, wheat straw, grass clippings and more.
