Craft Alliance strives to inspire and educate the people of St. Louis providing state of the arts studios and teachers for the instruction in fine crafts and continuing the growth of our community outreach programming. On-going studio instruction and program development continuously expand the curriculum in all craft areas with the goal of providing the best fine craft instruction and opportunities in the region.

Craft Alliance serves thousands of students of all ages, abilities and income levels as one of the largest year-round craft schools in the country and provides the most concentrated instruction in the creation and education of fine crafts in the St. Louis area. The potential to attract students from outside the St. Louis area is made possible by the nationally known visiting artists who regularly conduct workshops, exhibit and curate in the gallery and participate in residencies at Craft Alliance.

Faculty members teaching classes in clay, glass, metals, fiber, mixed media, drawing and painting are professionals in their fields, possessing college degrees with over 50% having terminal degrees in specific areas. See the Faculty Bios page for faculty descriptions. Click here to see clay thrown on a potter's wheel!

The community atmosphere in the studios, where students take and teach classes as well as produce and exhibit their work, provides the knowledge and skills where students can prosper as working artists. The youth programs provide instruction in areas not found in the regular school curriculum, allowing creative expression in new and unique ways.

Regularly scheduled classes meet for 4, 6 and 12 week sessions 4 times a year for 2800 children, teens and adults annually. In addition, summer and holiday camps attract several hundred more students to the facility. To better serve the community, there are scholarships available for many of the classes and workshops.

Newly initiated programs such as Weekend Studio classes for adults, the teen summer camp and teen volunteer program, and Weekend Arts for ages 12-adult have proven to be popular among our constituents and successful in furthering our mission and supporting the Education center.
