John Eric Riis and Marcel Marois: Tapestry
Craft Alliance is pleased to present tapestry artists John Eric Riis and Marcel Marois. Each is an exhibiting artist in Realities and Illusions, opening September 16, as part of the Innovations in Textiles 6 Collaborative Event. This lecture is free and open to the public and sponsored by The Weaver’s Guild of St. Louis. The talk will take place at the Regional Arts Commission the night before the opening reception of the exhibition.

One of many presentations on Saturday, Barbara Simon, the curator of Realities and Illusions, will be present as well as several of the visiting artists.

Craft Alliance

Caroline Huth – Collage
Artist and designer Caroline Huth presents a self-guided workshop in the art of collage design. In a one-day session, you’ll work with your memorabilia, plus accoutrements from her studio to create a one-of-a-kind framed pieces of your own. Learn how to design a theme, assemble the right items, build layers and dimension, and finally frame your final piece in a shadowbox frame. Caroline’s work can be seen at the Gallery in the University City Public Library as part of the Fall Innovations in Textile 6 event.

Caroline Huth believes that the deliberate arrangement of objects can begin to tell a story. She states that “through layering and intentional obscurity, the viewer is led to imagine the characters and the plot.” Caroline crates intimate pieces that resonate with personal and imagined stories and has been exhibiting and winning awards for her collage work since 2002.

Lindsay Ketterer Rais – Wire Basketry & Found Objects
Learn the technique of knotless netting (looping) using wire. Students will create sculptural forms using knotless netting & wire screening and be encouraged to incorporate found or common materials. Linsday’s work is part of the Innovations in Textiles Fall Event and was recently featured in Surface Design Magazine.

Lindsay Ketterer Rais combines her love of fashion, found objects and textile techniques to create sculptural forms. After studying at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania, she went on to exhibit with the R. Duane Reed Gallery, 13 Moons Gallery as well as at the Smithsonian Craft Show, SOFA Chicago, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show. She recently lectured and gave a workshop at the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery in Washington, DC and received a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship for 2005. She maintains a studio in Milford, PA.
