The Craft Alliance Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Craft Alliance will open a satellite in the Kranzberg Cultural Arts Center at Grand Center in Fall 2008! Located on Grand in the new Big Brothers Big Sisters building just south of the Fox Theatre, the satellite will allow Craft Alliance to reach new urban audiences, to expand its outreach programming, to form new partnerships in the Grand Center area, and to provide the St. Louis community with greater access to contemporary studio craft art.
Craft Alliance’s Grand Center satellite will have three major components: a new Exhibition Gallery, expanded Outreach Programming, and Educational Programming with Artist Residencies.
Exhibition Gallery
Craft Alliance (CA) will present non-traditional studio craft exhibitions which challenge conventional notions of craft art and underscore the vital role of craft media in contemporary art. Download a prospectus>>
Outreach Programming
The facility will house Community Outreach Programming for St. Louis children and teens. CA will partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters, increase its ArtSmarts program from three to fifteen schools, and add an additional 20-25 students to its multi-year young artist program, Crafting-a-Future.
Education Programming
The satellite will feature a metals studio, a clay studio, a graphics studio, a fiber studio and three artist residency studios; all of the studios will have state-of-the-art equipment. CA will partner with St. Louis University, offer workshops, visiting artist master classes, and summer camps.
Artist Residencies
CA’s artist residency program will give the public and students in CA’s outreach and education programs the rare opportunity to learn about the processes involved in creating studio craft art. Download an application>>
