This work involves a unique process wherein concentric rings are cut from a wide board and laminated to form the rough shape. This is then carved to final form and sanded. Tool marks are usually left visible, sometimes smoothed off completely. A variety of finishes and surface treatments are used. The resulting object has an ambiguous appeal. New, yet primitive; organic, but man made; even the material is difficult to identify. I like the dynamic shape, the repeating grain pattern, the surprising lightness of them.
