Artist Kim Caisse has worked in clay over 20 years. The exciting sense of form in Pueblo pottery was an early inspiration. Work in theater costume fed her fascination with historical decorative arts. Studying pottery in Japan helped her appreciate the strength tradition brings to the craft arts and also the deeply personal nature of each artist’s response to it. Her jewelry is hand sculpted of earthenware clay. The flat pieces are ‘sketched’ out of a sheet of clay, capturing the freshness of a simple doodle while reflecting a mix of influences including Chinese calligraphy and mid-century modern geometric forms.
