Kimberly’s love of distressed metal began at a very early age, so when she began making jewelry it seemed natural that she would purposefully distress the surfaces with traditional patinas and finishes. After many years using the same technique, she sought out new ways to apply color to metal. In her new series, Rustic Enamel, she uses vitreous enamels to create rich, vibrant colors. To get that distressed look that she enjoys so much, she also incorporates unusual materials such as sand and mica powders into the enamels and even mixes enamels together.
“I am inspired by architectural elements as well as vintage textiles. Also, I am fascinated by architecture and architectural details which compels me to travel whenever possible. I reside in New York City which I find to be a constant source of inspiration.”
