The artist explains, "My ceramic jewelry is distinguished by simplicity, harmony and grace of form."
Inspired by architecture & sculpture, Klara Borbas was raised and educated under the wings of classical European art. Her work sustains this influence, reflected in a perfection of form that still possesses the trace of her hand. She has followed a challenging & memorable journey since moving from her native Hungary to the USA in 1995. She was a potter who had turned to sculpting after more than a decade of producing ceramics in her hometown of Budapest. She was drawn back to clay soon after settling in New York City.
In 2007 she started to work on a very small scale – making ceramic brooches. Then in 2008 she expanded her jewelry line. She developed a new style built on contrasts: black & white, hard & soft, shiny & matte. This strong and striking collection brings a fresh outlook to ceramic jewelry. The light weight, hollow pendants carry sculptural qualities based on their classical shapes, carvings and textural richness. Their colors are limited to black and white, giving a dramatic appearance. Her work is minimalist & have the unusual pairing of different materials and the soft beauty of the glazed porcelain produces a warm & approachable result.
This jewelry collection represents relaxed elegance, upscale quality and sophisticated taste.
