SUMMARY:Visiting Artist Buzz Spector – Demo and Guided Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us on March 27 as Visiting Artist Buzz Spector demonstrates various papermaking techniques, discusses his practice, and has a behind-the-scenes conversation with curator Grant Benoit on jurying and curating the Cut/Fold/Press exhibition. Light refreshments will be served, and participants will be able to create a small paper piece to take home. Tickets include the demo and workshop and a raffle ticket to win a work by Spector. Funds raised from this event will support Craft Alliance’s mission to make the craft arts more accessible to the whole St. Louis community. See details and purchase tickets here.\nAn internationally renowned artist, critic, and writer, Buzz Spector’s work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia and is held in the collections of the Whitney Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.\nSpector’s work often involves altering books and other printed materials through tearing, collage-making, stacking, and re-binding. “Through this refashioning of existing printed materials, he poses questions about authorship, the history of art, and the written word. His works are at once deeply literate and slyly humorous (Saint Louis Art Museum).”\nIn addition to his artwork and writing, Spector taught at Cornell University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University. He taught painting, sculpture, and two-dimensional design for a decade and acted as dean for five years.\n
