Position Summary:
Craft Alliance collaborates with local partners at schools, educational centers, community centers, and institutions to produce community-driven murals each year. The Mural Arts Program Teaching Artist is responsible for planning and leading classes at our partner institutions in the creation of a permanent or semi-permanent large-scale art piece. As the Mural Arts Program Teaching Artist, you can expect to be at the site location two days per week, roughly 3 hours each, or as requested by the partner organization. The curriculum involves teaching visual arts to inspire and lead the creation of a large-scale art mural.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with site partners to lead large-scale art project initiatives on location, including installing large-scale art projects..
- Work with Craft Alliance Community Programs Manager and site representative to design a curriculum that teaches arts and crafts skills.
- Fulfill the number of hours/classes per specific teaching agreement.
- Minor grading of projects as needed by partners for curriculum.
- Support program evaluation as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Competencies:
- Experience as an art instructor, especially for middle and high school-aged groups.
- Experience creating a collaborative atmosphere for art creation.
- Excellent oral, written, presentation, and teaching skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Craft Alliance and partner administration as needed.
- Ability to work with groups of 25-35 youth.
- Ability to install art pieces, whether hung, painted, or installed in other ways.
- Experience with youth in communities with historically underserved populations.
- Ability to problem solve and reason.
- Experience with creative solutions to class disruption.
- Must be available during weekdays, during traditional school, or after school hours.
- Must pass a background check.
