Welcome to the Craft Rainbow!
This week, we are diving into our “Craft Rainbow” series, a colorful exploration designed specifically to bring the joy of the maker movement into your home.
Nestled right here in the vibrant Delmar Maker District of St. Louis, our mission has always been to open the gateway for people of all ages to discover contemporary craft. But you don’t have to be in our studios to start making! Today, we are sharing a fun, vibrant, and accessible paper craft project that will turn your living room into a blooming garden.
We love seeing the creativity of our St. Louis youth flourish. We are so thrilled to share this easy guide on how kids can create their very own paper flowers!

The Art of the Trap: Step-by-Step
Materials You Will Need:
Square pieces of colored paper (we used orange, white, yellow, and green!)
Scissors
A glue stick
A pencil
A wooden skewer or thin dowel
Clear tape
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Fold and Prep: Start by taking a square piece of white paper. Fold it in half, and then fold it in half once more so you have a smaller square.
Draw the Petals: Using your pencil, draw a curved, semi-circle shape starting from the folded corner. This will be the outline of your flower petals.
Cut and Reveal: Carefully cut along the pencil line you just drew. Once you unfold the paper, you will reveal a beautiful, symmetrical four-petal flower!
Repeat with Color: Repeat steps 1 through 3 using a different color, like orange, to create layers for your flower.
Make the Leaves: Take a small square of green paper and fold it in half. Draw a pointed leaf shape along the fold, cut it out, and unfold it to reveal your leaves.
Create the Stem and Center: Roll a fringed piece of pink or yellow paper tightly around the top of your wooden skewer and secure it with tape. This creates the textured center of your flower.
Assemble Your Bloom: Use your glue stick to attach the white and orange petals together. Then, carefully poke your skewer through the center of the paper petals so they rest right under the fringed top. Finally, glue your green leaves to the bottom of the flower base.
We want to see the wonderful rainbow gardens you create at home! Share your photos and behind-the-scenes clips of your kids crafting on Facebook and Instagram. Be sure to tag us and use our local hashtags so we can share your masterpieces with the rest of the St. Louis arts community!
Keep making, keep exploring, and we will see you next week for another Craft Alliance Weekly Feature!
