Introduction to Linocut

Introduction to Linocut

Introduction to Linocut

July 16 - August 20

This class is intended to teach beginning printmakers the skills to make expert-level prints. We will look at examples of historical and contemporary printmakers’ innovative approaches to one-layer black ink linocuts. We will examine a variety of drawing and carving styles, which students will then experiment with to make a small “prototype” print. After the small prints are finished, we will explore different methods for enlarging these prototypes to make a final larger carving/print. Alternatively, if students are interested, we will introduce adding color layers.
