Plainly and simply, I love making things. Engaging in the creative process gives me satisfaction, focus and a sense of purpose. I also truly enjoy helping others to realize their creative ideas. Whatever their goals, I want to help students succeed in achieving them. Teaching complements the otherwise solitary process of creating artwork. I like that it gets me outside myself.

My current body of work grew out of a project I did decades ago with seventh grade students. We created ceramic, hollow forms and smoke fired them. I loved the surfaces that the smoke created so I have continued to use this ancient method to this day. My ceramic work is not glazed: It is burnished by hand and fired outdoors in a makeshift “kiln” with organic and metallic substances. My goal, when working in clay, is to create compelling forms with intriguing surfaces.

I have taught in a variety of public and private school and not-for-profit settings since 1999. I received my Art K-12 certification in 2009 and have exhibited my found object and ceramic sculpture locally and regionally since 1992.
