Is Slow Craft Still Relevant Today?

In the studios of Craft Alliance and other craft schools and centers, students and artists dedicate themselves to making by hand – embracing slow, meticulous work with techniques used for hundreds of years. But with the increasing accessibility of post-industrial and digital processes that aid in completing and creating artwork, is the slow, method-heavy practice of craft still relevant today? Slow/Make explores making and craft at the intersections between the hand and technology.

Curated in collaboration with Crossroads Preparatory School, whose Fifth Day students investigate this idea and pose questions to answer through studio experiences, artist discussions, and studio visits.
