Glass Artist Faculty Max Tsimerman

Max says:

We use torches that run on propane and oxygen to melt glass rods into marbles, beads, and sculptures. Many of the glass rods come straight from Murano, Italy.

Student Work

The molten glass is wrapped around a stainless steel mandrel and then annealed (gradually cooled) in a kiln until the next day.  Max teaches his students timing, heat control, and how to alter the chemistry of the glass in order to get the most vibrant colors.

Students can also bring in their own ideas for projects.  We use a variety of tools to shape the glass, but our number one tool is heat. Once you try on the tinted glasses, you can see through the yellow flame and get mesmerized by the colors changing right before your eyes.
