Woodturning: Making a Pen

Description

In this fun and hands-on class, you’ll learn the art of pen turning using a wood lathe! A lathe is a machine that rotates wood while you shape it with tools to create beautiful objects—in this case, pens. You’ll start by selecting your wood blank, which is the piece of wood that will become your pen. Then, you’ll learn how to securely mount it onto the lathe and begin shaping it into a smooth, custom pen.

You’ll use lathe tools, such as gouges and chisels, to carefully turn the wood and create a sleek, polished pen body. You’ll also learn about sanding and finishing techniques to give your pen a smooth, professional look. Finally, you’ll assemble your pen by adding a pen kit, which includes the nib, clip, and other components, to make your unique creation fully functional.

This class is perfect for beginners, and no prior woodworking experience is necessary! You’ll leave with a handmade, one-of-a-kind pen that you crafted yourself, plus the skills to continue creating more beautiful pens in the future.
