Craft Futures: Celebrating 60 Years of Craft

This fall, we celebrate the transformative nature of craft techniques and materials that have held true for centuries and the makers who continuously challenge and expand the field of craft. Looking towards the next 60 years, Craft Alliance poses the question: What is the role of craft in our collective futures? Whether transforming materials, expanding technique, or challenging personal practices, the artists in this exhibition are building the future of craft.

The Unbirthday Party: 19th Biennial Teapot Exhibition

The Unbirthday Party kicks off our 60th anniversary year with a topsy-turvy version of the beloved biennial teapot exhibition at Craft Alliance. The exhibition is inspired by Lewis Caroll’s books, in particular the Mad Hatter’s tea party in The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland and the “Unbirthday Party ” as described by Humpty Dumpty in Carroll’s sequel Through the Looking Glass (the two were merged into one in the 1951 Disney movie).
The exhibition is presented as an immersive experience, inviting visitors to be guests at a tea party in which the rules have all changed, and every day is an opportunity to celebrate your UnBirthday.
